Today is February the 1st. 46 days away from March 20th, the first day of Spring. Yes, I am counting down. I have had a high spring fever ever since the holidays, cleaning out and organizing our home. I am ready for the season of new life, a fresh start! So, I am making it a point to do something every day for the month of February so that when Spring finally arrives, our home is ready for it! And we can just enjoy the sunshine and daffodils...

I’m calling it “Fresh February”.

I’ve made up a month of daily challenges.

And you can join in with me!

The two most important things you will need:

  1. The February Fresh Calendar

  2. The To Do List

You can download and print them here:

CALENDAR

TO DO LIST

The Calendar has a challenge for each day Monday - Saturday (rest on Sunday). I will break down these challenges each day and fill you in on what I’m doing and links to things I’m using that could help you also.

On each Saturday, you will see “To Do”. This is where the To Do List comes in. On your first Saturday I want you to walk through your home and list items that need to be fixed or whatnot that have been neglected and just need to be done. Such as, I really need to replace the blown bulb in Q’s bedroom, and put that door trim back up, and repaint the coffee table, etc. Each Saturday, you will tackle one or a few of these items and check them off. Don’t you love the satisfaction of making a list and checking everything off? I do. And come the end of February, I hope that’s what we all have done!

So, Happy First Day of FRESH FEBRUARY! Let’s get started and show your progress with #freshfebruary2019 on Instagram.

PREP

  • Download + Print

  • Stock Up

  • Outbox

I.  Prep work is key to a job well done. So first things first, download the Calendar and To Do List and print them!

II.  Stock up on some cleaning supplies, you’re going to need them and they need to be at hand!

I’m sure you all have seen Mrs. Meyers taking social media by storm, and right now they have an awesome sale ( a free gift set with your first order of $20 / more ). I am taking advantage of it and I am so excited to be throwing out the chemical cleaners that have been giving me migraines and bringing in natural cleaners!

Chris loves Julia recently did a review on all of the scents! If you are also interested in trying these products out for the first time, I recommend you give this a read.

If you have any natural cleaners or remedies that you use, please share!

III.  Set up an Outbox. This can be a basket, a cardboard box, a bag - anything to designate OUT. And by “out”, I mean outta this house. After you set them up, walk through the house and grab anything you see that you know needs to go. As we work through the daily challenges we will encounter more. Slowly working our way through a big declutter!

I will be setting up 3 cardboard boxes:

TO DO

  • Download and Print To Do List

  • Fill out your to Do List

  • Take care of at least one item

Tackling the To Do List will be every Saturday's challenge. Walk through your home and list items that need attention, such as: blown bulbs, paint touch up, repairs, etc. Then focus on getting at least one item taken care of today. Next Saturday, tackle another, or two. And by the end of the month this list will be done or mostly done, leaving quite a few less things to worry about!

MIRRORS + WINDOWS

  • Break out the new cleaning supplies!

  • Clean all Mirrors

  • Clean all Windows

  • Clean anything else glass; table tops, etc

The first day to use new cleaning supplies! I could barely wait, seriously! I ordered a set of Mrs. Meyer's cleaning products and this glass cleaner is the first one to be used since just getting in. I have always been a fan of lemon verbena and was really happy to find it as a scent option for the Mrs. Meyer's collection. But what I was most excited about, being able to clean with a product that didn't automatically send me into a migraine!

LINENS

  • STRIP ALL BEDDING

  • COLLECT ALL TOWELS, RAGS, ETC.

  • REMOVE ANY CHAIR COVERS, PILLOW COVERS, ETC.

  • WASH + WASH + WASH

In normal life, Linen Day would fall on every Sunday while I am tackling normal laundry loads. But this is the part I LOVE! Starting the week off with fresh, clean bedding and towels is so nice. And that is what gets me through it all! Occasionally I like to remove the covers off of the wing back chairs in the Living Room and give them a wash too. Anything that can go into the wash - grab it and throw it in!

I have always used a linen bleach for these days...but with this Fresh February I have been making a point to use only NATURAL cleaning products (I have gotten most from Grove - Mrs. Meyer's). So for Linen Day I am going to go natural too! Mrs. Meyer's also has a laundry detergent, but I wanted to try something homemade that would whiten (most of our linens are white). Here is a post from Mommy Potamus with a recipe that I will be trying out! It uses only 3 ingredients...and if that doesn't the job, the post also has 2 natural store bought products that I am interested in trying!

Mommy Potamus

Recipe:

4 cups Hot Water

1-2 cups 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

2/3 cup Washing Soda

10 drops Lemon Essential Oil

See post for further instructions.
